Hartman Spiller Trapp is an integrated architecture firm experienced in residential, cultural, hospitality, civic and other built environments.

Brad Hartman, Partner

Brad is a partner at HST, and an active member of the AIA. He graduated from Iowa State University to then work in the architecture offices of Brooks Borg Skiles, Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck, Substance Architecture and later co-founded Hartman Trapp Studio with Thomas Trapp. Today, he and Tom are lead Commercial architects at HST.

James Spiller, Partner

James is a partner at HST with a Masters in Architecture from the School of Art Institute of Chicago. He has worked as a Designer for Knowles Blunck, an Associate Professor of Practice at Iowa State University, a Director of Design at Blackbird, and later co-founded Spiller Design & Architecture with Rachel Spiller. Today, he and Rachel are lead on all Residential projects at HST.

Rachel Spiller, Partner

Rachel is a partner at HST with a Masters in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has worked for firms including Skidmore Owens and Merrill, HLKB Architecture, Knowles Blunck Architecture, Neumann Monson Architects, and later co-founded Spiller Design & Architecture with James Spiller. Today, she and James are lead on all Residential projects at HST.

Tom Trapp, Partner

Tom is a partner at HST, and an active member of the AIA. He graduated from Iowa State University to then work in the architecture offices of Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck, OPN, Substance Architecture, and later co-founded Hartman Trapp Studio with Brad Hartman. Today, he and Brad are lead Commercial architects at HST. 

Jon Bassett, Architect

Jon received his Bachelor’s of Architecture from Iowa State University in 2015. He Spent the next 10 years in Colorado working for Tryba Architects and open studio architecture. He has broad experience managing various scale of commercial projects from inception to completion.

Nick Deasy, Architectural Designer

Nick Deasy received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Iowa State University in 2017. He went on to work for BLDD Architects in Davenport, Iowa. Later he joined Hartman Trapp Architecture Studio, where he leveraged his computer skills to spearhead product research, construction detailing, and recently all things building code related. 

Finn Digman, Architectural Designer

Finn received his Masters of Architecture from Iowa State University in 2024. He has a Bachelors of Science from UNCA where he studied Environmental Science and Political Science. Before becoming an Architectural Designer, Finn worked in Disaster Response and Environmental Education.

Hannah Hilk, Architect

Hannah received her Bachelors of Architecture from Iowa State University in 2020. She worked at the Computation and Construction Lab at ISU and for BVH Architecture in Omaha while in school, and later for Spiller Design & Architecture. Hannah has experience working closely with clients of residential and small business projects.

Morgan Jensen, Architectural Designer

Morgan Jensen received her Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University in 2024, where she also received a minor in Public Relations and Historic Preservation. Morgan brings unique experience with her background in the construction field as well as the design-build project delivery method. She enjoys guiding clients through the iterative design process through 3-D digital modeling and rendering.

Zack Werba, Architectural Designer

Zack is a graduate of Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Architecture in 2017. While in school he worked for BLDD Architects and OPN Architects in Iowa. He then joined Hartman Trapp Architecture Studio where he found himself providing efficient and beautiful design strategies and solutions for clients that he depicts with his strong computer modeling and rendering skills.
